3 Advantages to Creatively Themed Children’s Rooms

creatively themed room

When you setup a new room, you consider a lot of details to deliver a message or convey a purpose. I know in my Kitchen I spent a lot of time making sure it was organized for both ease of use and to look clutter free with limited storage space. There are MANY advantages to having creatively themed Children’s rooms. Here are the 4 most important:

1. Having a creatively created space for your little one gives them a chance to let their imaginations soar. It gives them the freedom to see think creatively and inspires creativity from them.

My favorite thing to hear are Children’s made up stories of that scribble letter they wrote Santa, or their conversations with their imaginary friend. In a room designed to let them be creative, you can show them the sky is the limit.

2. It allows them to have personal expression early on (even if most of it IS your idea :) ) This will instill the idea that creativity is a good thing! It allows them to start being more creative.

When I was a kid, I was encouraged to help and find creative solutions to problems. One time I washed the walls with toilet water because I was too little to reach the sink, but wanted to help. Granted, I’m sure you don’t want your little one to wash anything with toilet water, giving them a chance to be creative allows your child to share their personality. Children can be awesome, quirky, funny individuals!

3. Bright colors encourage and foster happier moods. This allows everyone to enjoy their space and gives them a sense of their own area.

I’m renting which means most of my additions cannot be permanent. I found the best solution to that ever! Reusable Wall Decals allow me to add personality to every room and avoid losing my deposit when I move.

Check out some of the great decals from KidsWallDecalSource.com if you can’t find something you like, we also offer custom designs, just contact us!

DIY: Wall Hanging with a Dandelion Wall Decal

Dandelion Wall Decal Project- Wall Decal Source

DIY: Wall Hanging with a Dandelion Wall Decal and Pallet Wood

In this DIY- How To Series Project: Kim Blank will teach you How to make a DIY Wall Hanging with Pallet Wood and a Dandelion Wall Decal.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

This is a really fun project and I'm excited to share it with you.

Materials:

Click the picture to see a bigger image

What you will need:

  1. Dandelion Wall Decal
  2. Eight (8) Pallet Boards
  3. Work gloves for protection
  4. Saw
  5. Drill
  6. Box of 1 1/2 Screws
  7. Acrylic Paint
  8. Acrylic Paintbrush
  9. Tape Measure
  10. Wood Gorilla Glue
  11. Scissors (Not in the image)

Now that you have all the materials. Let's get started...

Step 1: Attach your pieces of Pallet Wood together with Wood Glue

Click the picture to see a bigger image

I wood glued my pieces of wood together at varying lengths to get a little bit of variation at each end in my project. Apply wood glue to the sides of both boards and press them firmly together. Repeat until you have reached your desired size.

Step 2: Prep and Screw Brackets

The glue alone is not strong enough to hold together the wall hanging so we are going to install brackets that will also help support the entire project.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

I'm going to now prep my bracket. My pieces of wood are 42" long so I'm going to do cut my them in half to 21".

Click the picture to see a bigger image

Now I'm going to cut this piece in half and then I'll be able to use it. I've got this handy saw that I'm going to use with this guide to create a straight cut on my first attempt. I can just set my board in it and align my mark with the angle that I want to cut it.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

Now that we have our two pieces that we're going to use to put it together; we are going to brace it. I'm going to put my screws in and I'm going to use six (6) screws per bracket. Two (2) in the front, two in the center and two on the end. Now that we have our brackets screwed to our seven boards we can start painting the boards.

Step 3: Painting the Pallet Boards

There is our arrangement and we'll flip it over and paint it. I have flipped my palette board over and I've kind of cleared my space.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

I'm going to bring these away and I'm going to bring my blue paints over and my paintbrush. I'm going to go get that. I have got my red Solo cup, my paintbrush and my paints and we're going to come out with a nice early morning blue paint color. I'm excited for how this is going to turn out. If you would like to you could paint the front of your board or you could leave it exposed or stain it. It is entirely up to you.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

We're going to just paint the entire front side. I'm just going to do one coat and then we're going to let that dry. It is important that you wait until your paint is dry because it could mess up the decal.

Step 4: Applying the Dandelion Wall Decal

Click the picture to see a bigger image

The next step we'll be doing is putting our wall decal on. All right, so we are back again and we have our paint dry a couple hours later. This is awesome. It's our early morning blue. It's so pretty on our palette boards. Now we're going to apply the dandelion decal. I get really excited whenever I get to apply decals, this one is a great product.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

Start by peeling the bottom layer back halfway on your decal. Pay particular attention to small elements on your decal so when you peel the backing you do it slowly because you can rip off the smaller pieces. Now I press it down on the edge of the board. If I go a little bit over that's fine, because, I can just cut it off with scissors. I'm going to press it down. Just press and slowly roll the rest of the backing away slowly.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

I'm peeling this bottom piece back and I'm pressing with my hands for now. I'm pressing it as I slowly peel it all the way up. I've peeled my entire pieceoff and set that down.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

Then I'm going to take my squeegee and I'm going to press it like really well paying particular attention to the little pieces. Because there is a lot of little fronds everywhere it important that they are securely fastened to the board. So I'm going to press it onto my palette board really good.

Click the picture to see a bigger image

Now I'm going to take my other pieces. I cut them, so they're kind of like the fronds, the dandelion fronds are drifting away with the wind. I'm going to take it and peel it back. Now these are easier, because, they're smaller. I'm going to peel the whole back off. It's pretty easy and really addicting. You just peel the backing off and then you just put it down and you just get your squeegee and just press it down really, really well. Now I'm going to go back to this original one and I'm going to press it one more time.

Step 5: Peeling off the Transfer Tape from the Dandelion Wall Decal

Click the picture to see a bigger image

I'm going to slowly and very carefully peel it. Okay, so now I've got my initial peeled back. This is so fun. Now you get to see how the final product turns out. I'm going to come and I'm actually going to press all this with fingers and my squeegee thing. I'm going to press it all, just so I know it's down really good. Then we'll go and peel the rest of them. It seems like the closer you peel back to your piece the better it turns out. Then I'm just coming back and pushing them down. There we have it. I'm going to just go over and I'm just going to press it all everywhere. I'm going to actually just get my scissors and trim the edge of that really good. Just carefully pressing them and then carefully peeling it back. Then we'll be good to go.

Step 6: Admire your finished Wall Hanging

Click the picture to see a bigger image

I'm so excited, this looks awesome. It's looks really good. This is fun. You can just do this in an afternoon. Get your dandelion decal. Paint your boards up. Screw them together and you will come out with a fun, this is a pretty big wall hanging, you know.

Conclusion

If you go and hang it on your wall. It'll cover a pretty good space and you just did this yourself at home. People would pay a lot of money for this. It's awesome looking. Thanks so much for checking us out. I really enjoyed doing this DIY  dandelion decal wall palette and I'm really excited about it. Ready to hang it up. We did this awesome early morning blue color.
I got a lot of these materials just from the home improvement store. Then I purchased the dandelion black wall decal from Wall Decal Source.

How To Use A Wall Decal To Decorate a Ocean Themed Kids Room

Ocean wall decals - Nursery Wall decals

Welcome Everyone!

The easiest place to start when setting a theme for a room is the walls.  If you can figure out what to put on the walls then finding the little decorative things to put in the room is 10 times easier!

The Ocean is such a vast expanse, and a great way to spark your child’s imagination. If you’re looking to inspire your children’s imagination then here are a couple of decals you could use to decorate.

7. ) ORCA DECAL:

Whale and FIsh Wall Decal

This decal is practically the whole ocean, There are so many different things you could do with this.  I really like the idea of taking the fish and having them in a line headed to somewhere. The great thing about decals is there really are so many different ways to use them.

6. CORAL PLANTS:

Coral Plants Vinyl Wall Decals

I love these Coral Plants Decal because there are so versatile.  I think they would look great in a kids bathroom, or to extend a decal and make it really take up a whole wall.  But I even like the idea of some white or blue throw pillows in the chair in the nursery with this decal on them!

5. SEAHORSES:

Seahorse Wall Decal

These seahorses would work really well to create separation in a room, to distinguish the play area from the rest of the room. Also, for that matter could they would work well in a bathroom. That’s one of the great things about ocean themes.  They work in both bedrooms and bathrooms!

4.FISH:

Fish Wall Decal

Plaid fish I think are a great way to mix patterns in your child’s room.  It helps to create a unique look.  Now these little fishes could either go above a crib, as pictured here: www.etsy.com/shop/walldecalsource, or combined with another decal to add an textured element, although the decal themselves are not textured.

3. TURTLES:

Sea Animal Decals

I just think this turtle is the too cute! Does it remind anyone else of Squirt from Finding Nemo?   One thing I love about our decals is, if your child pulls it off the wall, unlike wallpaper it can be easily replaced or reapplied! Here we used a reusable vinyl, just in case that very thing happened!

2. CORAL REEF:

Coral Reef Nursery Fish Wall Decal - Under Water Sea Weed Vinyl Stickers

If you are wanting to go all out with your room decorating, pick the right colors to match.  Is there a fish in the decal that inspires you and you want to find a stuffed animal fish the same color? Do you want to buy some furniture for the room or a bedspread to match? Matching your decals will really help you create a finished look.

1. FULL OCEAN:

Under the Sea

We here in the office call this one “Under the Sea” simply because, especially with a light blue wall color, it makes it seem like you’re in the sea!

The great thing about decals, there really are so many different ways to use them. Comment below with how you would lay out the decal on your wall!  Of if you buy one, please post a picture of it all up in the room.  We’d love to see your spin on decorating with Decals!
