How to Turn a Kids Room into a Fairy Tale Wonderland

fairy tale bedroom

How to turn a kids room into a fairy tale wonderland!

One of the most effective ways to encourage creativity and imagination is giving your little one an area where your children are surrounded by creativity, innovation and unique thinking. Turning your kids room into a fairy tale wonderland doesn’t have to be an expense or take a lot of time or space. We’ve found several really great designs that we wanted to share!

1. Add a Frozen Tree (virtually free, unless you need paint)

I know that if you’re part of the “I’ve heard that song a thousand times” crowd this might not sound as fun… However, if you setup a space that’s Frozen themed, maybe you won’t have to hear the song anymore! It’ll give your little ones an area to play and enjoy for years to come!

2. Hot Air Balloon Themed Oasis

What a great way to add to a room! This themed room would be great for a little boy or girls room.

We wanted a cheap alternative to the clock that every one has. When we found this tutorial there was no way we couldn’t share! Continue below to learn how to make a clock!

We pulled the step by step instructions from Youtube. The video is at the bottom if you would like to see the clock put together.

What You’ll Need:

  1. Popsicle Sticks (about 44)
  2. Beads
  3. Clock Components
  4. Yarn or Twine
  5. Milk Jug Cap or another small cap that will fit the hole at the center
  6. Small CD (optional)

Now that you have all of your supplies! Let’s get started!

1. Measure two holes on the stick: the first hole needs to be 5mm from the end. The second one needs to be 20mm from the other end.

Once you’re done, you’re ready to put your clock together!

How to make a clock

3. String 1 popsicle stick, then 2 beads and another popsicle stick. Continue this until you can make a small circle (that fits your milk jug cap) with the bottom of the popsicle sticks

4. Once you have enough to make a circle around your cap, string the bottoms of the popsicle sticks

5. When connecting both ends together, you want to have 2 popsicle sticks back to back to tie off your string. Loop the string through both of the end popsicle sticks

6. Pull the strings to remove any extra space

7. Double knot the string ends to keep your clock securely together, starting with the bottom

11 FUN Baby Shower Games

baby shower games

We had a blast with these Baby Shower games!

Baby Showers are such special events! It’s a chance to hang out with the Mother to be and get some laughs in before her little bundle gets here. A lot of times, its a mixture of family and friends that may or may not have met before which can make for some awkward moments and funny new memories!

1. Don’t Say “Baby”

At a baby shower this is just as hard as it sounds! When we played this game at my friends baby shower, we were cracking up because everyone kept yelling “Oh! You said BABY!” Everyone kept losing pins over and over and over again. We laughed like crazy because you don’t realize how much you say it until you can’t! I kept my pin for quite some time by simply staying quiet!

2. Baby Gift Bingo

As Mommy to be  unwraps her gifts, fill out your Bingo card. You may have several winners for this game. There are several ways to play this one, you can use a pre-filled out card or fill it in on your own.

via: parents.com (I got my Bingo cards here)

3. That’s What She Said

Have someone secretly write down what the mother to be says as she opens her gifts. Once the gifts are finished, announce that what she says as she opens her gifts is also what she said the night she conceived. You can let the Mother to be read the list or you can read it for her. Either way you’re sure to get a lot of laughs from this one. When we played there was a whole lot of “Awwww” which was hilarious to our crowd!

4. Words of Wisdom for Mom

Get a set of small envelopes and cards, give each attendee a chance to write down advice or suggestions for the Mother to be. These can later be added to a scrapbook or baby book. This article adapted it from a Martha Stewart Wedding Idea.

5. Baby Bottle Bowling

To keep the whole crowd moving, have a set of baby bottles with sand in them setup in a triangular formation. Have your guests use a tennis ball or other small ball to knock them over. You could even take this one a bit further and have teams bowling on 2 sets of bottle pins.

6. Decorate the Onesie!

Get plain white onesies, non-toxic fabric paints or markers (enough for each guest) ask mother to be to leave the room (a chance to breathe and put her feet up elsewhere) and give everyone 5 minutes to design their onesie. Once complete, have the mother to be match the newly designed onesie to the guest who made it.

7. Animal Pregnancy Baby Shower Game

With this one, you’ll match the animal with the correct number of DAYS of gestation… This one is sure to be a hoot! It’ll also give you some appreciation for just 9 months.

8. Name that Poo!

This one isn’t as gross as it looks! Melt candy bars one by one, spoon them into diapers, and make yourself a list of which one is which. Then pass the diapers around and let everyone guess what kind of candy bar it is. They can sniff or taste it to figure it out. The participant with the most correct guesses wins!

9. Nursery Rhyme Trivia

Help Mommy to be make sure she’s got her nursery rhymes ready!

10. Hello, My Name Is…

This has always been a favorite exercise of mine (even back when I was a trainer at my previous job) sometimes the match ups are hysterical! However make sure you don’t have anyone too hard to guess in the mix.  Another cool variation of this one is to focus on celebrity moms, found that idea here: weheartparties.com

11. Decorate a Block

This is such a cute idea! I haven’t had a chance to do this one yet, but I love that it has many purposes.

Do It Yourself Fridge Magnets

Do It Yourself Magnets

Making your own personalized Magnets, perfect for your kids art, or for leaving yourself helpful reminders on every metal surface.

I got these from a store for $4 for 3, yeah they’re pretty cool but I wouldn’t buy them again… especially now that I know how to make them myself..

20150709_134846

I found these at the dollar store on the clearance aisle, I LOVE butterflies so I couldn’t pass them up..

20150708_122102

I had a Magnetic List Pad in the car (see example below).

pl2227655-colorful_eco_friendly_magnetic_shopping_list_pad_with_opp_bag_packing

Total cost not including the Gorilla Glue: $1.07 (with Gorilla Glue $6.75)

Here’s how I did it:

1. Remove Magnet from notebook and use a paint scraper to remove the cardboard. Then cut into sizes that will fit on the clips.

2. Glue the pieces of magnets to the clips and allow to dry
